Fatehpur Sikri, a symbol of Akbar's empire and power was built in all its glory in the deciding year of 1571 but it was abandoned in 1585 because of lack of supply of water supply. A desire to have an heir to the throne made Akbar to visit Salim Chisti, a Sufi saint. His prayers and the predictions of Chisti were listened and Akbar was gifted with a son in 1569. This child was named as 'Salim' to pay a tribute to Chisti. It was followed by a process to build a splendid city in Sikri in order to honour Chisti.
